Eating

Biting tails and paws may be a sign of a food allergy not addressed in food change. If he has stopped but just doesn't care that much about eating he may have become conditioned to eating causing discomfort. However, the first thing I do if a dog that loved food and then doesn't is make sure there isn't an underlying illness. If his stools are fine (have them checked) then i would recommend having blood drawn and a thyroid check along with a parasite stool sample.

Now dogs, like people, are individuals. My boys dance around when they here me say lets eat. Literally dance in circles. My girls, when not pregnant could care less about eating and many times skip a meal. My neighbors healthy dog can go a couple of days without eating. If your dog is otherwise physically OK then I wouldn't force it. Also, I would not let your dog graze. Put it down and pick it up in 15 minutes.

Lastly, mix it up a little. When I have a dog that isn't an eater I will add some rice and or cooked chicken ( I get a cooked one at the store and take off the skin with the spices)All of a sudden they like eating. Oh, and get his teeth cleaned. A sore tooth or gum can also be a contributing factor and now a lot of practices to teeth cleaning by sedating the dog.

Thyroid issues are inexpensive easy 1 inexpensive pill a day if thats the issue so get that done but if all else fails and his bloodwork and stools are fine add to his food as I mentioned above

Thanks for reply. I would like suggestions of bones or treats that are safe for my doodle. He has ruined several pairs of my shoes if they are not out of his reach. Thanks. Joanne
