My favorite TC Boyle story that we have read as a class so far would have to be Green Hell. I love the humor that the narrator has. Well, it might not necesarilly be humor on purpose, but the way the narrator describes things is hillarious. He puts on the pilot to be some sort of badass, while giving lots of detail for the other characters as well. The way the story ends with the cat man being leader, and the narrator gets let go has to be the most funny thing. Only because the Narrator didn't really give a shit about the cats.
My least favorite TC Boyle story would probably have to be the one about Lassie. The boy just got into too much trouble, you know? The type of trouble he got into was not even a normal child's amount of trouble. It was more of life-threatening trouble. Then, at the end, Lassie's decision sort of disappointed me. But hey, it's a story, and I didn't like it. It could have been written a little better. Plus it wasn't humorous, which without a bit of humor, a story is kind of dry.
The one thing that I really enjoy about all of the TC Boyle stories is that the language in the books is finally on an adult level. Well, most of the stories. In high school, we were rarely allowed to read stories with the words Damn and Hell in them. The stories were considered innappropriate, I guess. That really sucked for the kids who liked to read. Also, this material is actually pretty interesting. However, I did like reading about Edward Allan Poe. Those stories were awesome.
In English 1100 we did not really read stories. I was placed into an International English class, where we did not even read stories. We mostly read out of our books to learn about how to write papers. It was a fun class, but it was not a very serious one. In this class we write less papers, and read better stories. I think I like English 1200 better, even though we read more and write more. I would rather read material than sit around and read lecture books.
