I am still in the thought process about which topics to choose for my issues paper. A lot of topics that I find would be interesting do not have two sides to argue because there is just not enough information on either sides or the topic is rather opinionated. A lot of common topics, which we will most likely not be allowed to do, like abortion, gay rights and anything with the media playing affect to something, because of lack of argument due to personal feelings or opinions. Although I do not want to do any of these topics, they have in common what some of my topics that I come up with have and that is they lack an issue with two sides that contain evidence or facts for both sides.
I gathered information for my annotated bibliography on alternative medicines and I could potentially write my issues paper on whether or not alternative medicines are credible for certain illnesses that they are used for such as cancer or chronic illnesses.
I also thought about maybe doing something about the recent Martin versus Zimmerman case which is now being looked into as a hate crime. I could potentially look into the qualifications of a hate crime and if they are above par or below. Another issue with this case is that the law in Florida as well as North Carolina states that if you fear for your life and shoot someone, it is acceptable and I think there was something about not having to serve a sentence or something or another. I would need to look into that as well before I went into further research but, I could question whether or not this law is credible or if it should change. This topic is not one that I necessarily feel too strongly about and I believe that should neutralize my argument so that it does not read like an argument paper.
I am definitely going to need to look into some more topics to make sure that I pick one that is interesting and does not bore myself while I am finding research or my reader while they are reading the information I gathered.
