The topic I have chosen for my annotated bibliography is the relationship between a healthy or an unhealthy lifestyle and Heart Disease. The reason I chose this topic is because Heart Disease (stroke, heart attack, etc.) is the number one cause of death in America, and ironically, America is the most obese nation in the world due to the high consumption of fast food and processed food. I also chose this topic because it is one that has had a lot of media coverage lately due to the fact that it is the number one killer in our country, so finding sources from 2007 to the present should not be too difficult of a task. It also shows up in the news a lot, so finding print sources and articles should be relatively easy too. It is also something I am passionate about. Learning about heart disease and other diseases has shown me that it is important to lead a healthy lifestyle (healthy eating and physical activity) and hopefully learning about heart disease will help others do the same.
The library instruction in class was very helpful for a few different reasons. One of them is that now I know how to find specific books, journals, etc. that are actually in the library, and using the call number that the catalog provides I can locate it easily in the library. Another is that I learned to distinguish between scholarly works, popular articles, trade journals, articles written by doctors, etc. Learning to distinguish between these different types of sources will help me with a few things. By analyzing the type of source it is, I will be able to determine the credibility of the source. Using more credible sources will get me more accurate information. Also, knowing what kind of source I am using will help me to cite that source correctly. She also helped by providing citation examples. I am not very keen on using online citation builders because I know that a lot of mistakes can happen using them, but it will be useful for citing sources I didnít know how to cite before. Have a great break!
