For the annotated bibliography assignment that has been assigned I have chosen to research mental disorders in teens and young adults. I specifically wanted to narrow my search by targeting only people close to my relative age, because they’ve experienced the same amount of time on this planet as I, and it’s probably messed them up as much as, if not more than me. These disorders can range anywhere from insomnia to PTSD and they all have a relevance to someone somewhere on this campus. The main reason I chose this topic in particular has to do with a friend of mine that works in the library, in her quest to become a neurosurgeon she has taken up volunteering for a research committee that is currently trying to decide if PTSD has more complex reasons for setting in, and the effects that it can have on people, physically as well as emotionally. She volunteered the idea to me and I decided that it would be as easy as any other topic, and I could use the sources in a future paper of sorts.
I expect this topic to be somewhat challenging, as a topic would be, but many medical professionals have delved into this realm of research which gives me hope of very reliable sources. Although this week is spring break, I am confident that a good dent can be put in the work required for this 18 source annotated bibliography.
At the library in during our instruction class I found myself mindlessly listening to the woman trying to help us. Fidgeting with my bag or the computer seemed to be more important. One thing managed to stick out and grab my attention just as I was opening a command prompt on the computer in front of me; catalogs and databases. I have always known that you can search the library’s collection of materials, but the depth of which you can search was a mystery to me. I now know exactly how to find the sources I need to use and how to avoid things that aren’t reliable, primary sources. In a paper that is completely based on sources, this is extremely important. The biggest thing I look forward to is finishing this thing; one less assignment to do.

What topic have you chosen for the Annotated Bib? Why have you chosen this topic? What, if anything, did you find useful about the library instruction class? Have a great and safe Spring Break.
