I would say compared to other English classes I have taken, this one has helped me in some of the areas I have struggled with in English. I see that being able to use research tools that ECU provides helps papers come together faster. The research being more in depth also helps how the papers come together. These aspects of writing papers have not been over emphasized in other courses. Being that this class focuses on the research aspect of writing papers I benefitted most from learning about research. With this knowledge hopefully I will be a few steps ahead when I take research methods over the summer. Hopefully I don't find that everything in the psychology department is completely different form how the English department treats papers using research. It has also been useful to learn about certain tricks to help a paper read more smoothly and help paragraphs not seem completely copied from a source. Having skills such as these help writers take advantage of how smooth an easy can flow instead of having ideas bulked up in sections and a lot of fluff around the bulk. It is apparent now that having a massive paragraph does overwhelm a read. With that in mind it is easier to read back over a paragraph I could of just wrote and separate it to make ideas flow better. Also book ends help each paragraph seem less worded directly from the author. I would say we didn't talk about grammar at all in the course, which could be something included otherwise. Taking this class because I needed too was the main reason, but that changed when I found out how easy research can be if done right. I would say that the class met most of my expectations. One of my main expectations that wasn't met though was that I though that the semester was actually going to be rough with you as a teacher, but come to find out you are not as much of a hard ass as you come off to be, so as far as the class being hell that expectation was unfortunately let down.
