Previous English classes have not been as beneficial to me and I would have hoped. In middle school and in the first two years of high school, I had wonderful teachers, but they were wonderful as people; not necessarily as teachers. The curriculum for Middle school and the first two years of high school called for a large amount of time focused on grammar and the principles of writing a basic sentence. I've always hated that. I tend to write the way I speak. For example I would write something like, "Gawd, Tina! Come get your dinner you fat lard!" Which clearly conveys the inflection in the character's voice. However to an english teacher that would be wrong because it is improper grammar. So I have hated grammar and picking out the different parts of a sentence since middle school. However, After my sophomore year in High school, things started to change up and focus more on literature then the basic principles of writing. I enjoyed the literature because it was interesting and could hold my attention where as the learning different pieces of sentences with no sort of fluidity, never really stuck in my mind. But since I knew how to write the way I spoke papers weren't that hard for me. I usually averaged around a C which is fine because Im a terrible English student. But I hope to manage better in this class even though I have a shaky foundation for writing. I am hoping to improve upon it this year.
