Charter Schools

I have decided to debate a topic that is close to my heart; the topic of why charter schools deserve the same amount of funding as public schools. As a former charter school student I witnessed the struggle my school had to fight to get funding for the necessities. I also felt the sting of the rude comments that the community used when senate bill 8 was passed in 2011. This bill lifted the cap on charter schools in North Carolina. I will write about the quality of both charter and public schools. I will use my own experiences to make my argument stronger. I will find facts and statistics on scholarships and rate of acceptance for both types. I believe this topic has produced many debates, and I would like my views to be expressed.
I will be taking the supportive side of this argument. Charter schools deserve more funding because they provide a better education and a more caring learning environment. The teachers at a charter school show there students that they truly want to help them learn. At my school we were unable to maintain a bus system and in the early years of the school we didnít have a lunch program. Many people believe that the dress code takes away the students right of individuality and freedom of expression, but in fact it allows those students who may be less fortunate to feel equal to those who have a family fortune. It also causes fewer distractions and promotes a calm place to learn. Another criticism that I have heard is that if students wanted to go to a school like that then they should go to a private school. This statement is wrong in many ways. To start off the price of a private school is expensive, while it is free to attend a charter school. Also private schools are not everywhere so it may be hard to get into one. Charter schools also have lotteries that a student must be entered in to become part of the school. This is not to make them exclusive, but to give everyone an equal opportunity to get in. Charter schools could have hundreds of kids apply each and they need the lottery to decide who gets in. I hope I do well on this paper, because I want others to see how helpful charter schools are and how much they need funding.
