English classes before college were a joke and never strained you mentally or made you work for the grade. In high school all I had to do was show up and I would get at least a high “B”, and that gave me a false sense of security. My first week in college English was the same as the rest of my English classes, started with grammar, talked about what the plan for the semester was and finally talking about what our first assignment was going to be. After we talked about the assignment for a couple of class periods I figured that it would be a simple project and would not take as much time as she thought it would. I waited until the day before the project was due to even start on it. I figured that I would at least a “B” but I got an EPIC FAIL as you put it in class. After that I knew that I would have to bust my butt just to pass the class because one assignment really will ruin your grade. I found that the most beneficial thing was the awakening that I received from that first assignment in English 1100, because from it I learn that college is not something to take lightly. College is my future and I am not going to ruin my life because I was too sorry to start on assignments early and give myself enough time to put some real effort into it. I do not think that it is beneficial for me to receive my grades and only look at them as “well at least that one is done”; I need to sit down and review what I did wrong and come up with a solution to correct my errors. I think that the only think that you could do to help me with my writing is for us to go over the paper I got back and have you explain what I could to strengthen my writing because I will go ahead a tell you that I am not the strongest writer. Your stamps will help me know what my errors were but sitting down face to face and going over my paper will be the only way I will actually fix the problem.
