So far I have enjoyed the TC Boyle books we have read in class. I think they are entertaining. I enjoy reading in general because it takes me to another place after a long day and helps relief stress. Of the TC Boyle stories I have read I enjoyed Modern Love the most. It was entertaining to read about a poor sap trying to score with a hot chick. I felt sorry for the man spending so much money and wasting his time but I also thought it was funny. As a guy I can relate to a few situations in the story (not full body condoms) such as psychopath girlfriends, dates, money, and ignored phone calls. Although Brenda was smoking hot there has to be a moment in time when a guy realizes that what he is doing is not worth it. I especially enjoyed Mr. Bates annotation of the story in class, not only was it hilarious it also helped me better understand the events that occurred in the story. I didnít enjoy Heart of a Champion as much as the other stories. For me Timmyís death was way too drawn out. Timmy almost died every paragraph because of trees, rivers and mudslides etc. Every time that Timmy had a near death experience his dog Lassie saved him, this made me frustrated. Someone like Timmy who doesnít have common sense to look out for his best interest is bound to die. In my opinion in a story like Heart of a Champion, static characters that never learn from their near death experience, or in Timmyís case experiences, should die sooner rather than later. I can relate Timmy to several people I know, these people have no common sense and are bound to get injured in some way shape or form and I surly donít want to be there when it happens. People need to be more aware of their environment, texting and driving is a perfect example. Focus on the road and your environment before you kill me you imprudent driver! I havenít read any other TC Boyle stories but will over the break because I donít have a good book. I would like to have more assignments in the Boyle book because the assignments are fun and an easy way to boost my grade.
