I have decided to write about the legalization of marijuana for my issue paper. I think this will be a good topic because there are many different viewpoints on the legalization of marijuana. When considering the legalization of marijuana it is important to note the different t effects it would have on Americaís youth in regards to their view of the drug. Kids would need to understand that it is not okay to use this drug until they are of age or meet the requirements to use it. This topic may be tricky to write about because it represents a huge what if statement, meaning that the repercussions of the legalization of marijuana cannot be determined exactly because it has not happened nationwide yet. Also a few things to consider when determining if marijuana should be legalized are its effects the economy, jobs, health, crime, and taxes. One of the biggest issues would be government regulation of this drug, People are concerned on how it would be taxed, who would sell it, how much would it cost, who would grow it, will kids be able to use it, will it be taxed, what is the legal age, can everyone obtain it. People argue that marijuana helps people who suffer from cancer and certain diseases. I need to look into these diseases such as cancer and glycoma, and determine if the health benefits of this drug outweigh its risks. I think the legalization of marijuana would affect everyone in the country, given that cannabis is one of the USAís top cash crops even in itís illegal form. More specifically I think the legalization of cannabis would affect individuals in the medical field, the farming industry, and people in the marketing business. I need to do extensive research to represent both sides of the argument: If marijuana should be legalized. I should also mention in my paper that certain states like Colorado and California have already legalized marijuana. I could dive deeper in depth by presenting statistics from these places to validate both sides of the argument and write a non-biased paper.
