“This one goes to eleven” That is one of my new favorite quotes! English 1200 was an interesting experience. Overall I enjoyed the class, and had fun. I think one of the things I enjoyed the most in English 1200 was reading the TC Boyle stories. I love to read and during the semester I never had time to pick up a book to read for fun. TC Boyle’s stories helped me decompress after a long day of school and work. I think that future students in English 1200 should be assigned readings in TC Boyle book. The first day of class I remember thinking how much I hated English, and how bad I didn’t want to be in the class. The 8am class Monday Wednesday and Friday was quite an adjustment after a long and lazy Christmas break. However, after coming to class for a few weeks it wasn’t so bad. I have actually started to enjoy writing more just in these last few weeks of the semester. One thing I will remember from English 1200 is the talks we always had before class. I think they put everyone in a good mood, and made my day start off on the right foot. I will also remember when my email filed everything English related in the spam box for two weeks straight! What a bummer! English 1200 is unique in the fact that it is a research based class. I feel that research based classes prepare you for future college classes a lot more than regular English classes. I found several things to be very beneficial in my time in 1200. Learning how to properly use the Joyner database is one of the most useful skills I think a college student can have. Another thing extremely beneficial that I have started utilizing the past two weeks is the university writing center. The people there are great and help you with your assignments so much. English 1200 differed from my English 1100 class in a social aspect. In 1100 I felt like I knew all of my classmates, this was not the case in 1200. Another thing that I wish we got to write about was current events. During the semester I felt a little unattached from the outside world and writing about current events would help relieve this feeling. Overall I have enjoyed the class, my professor, and the assignments. I think the university should make a third writing class a requirement to graduate at ECU.
