I think the stories were a little strange but they were not too bad. Boyle seems to know how to portray the themes presented in this book and the stories seem to range from serious to funny to sexual and each story is unpredictable. I like how the book is setup and how the stories flow and the idea behind the themes. I liked the story “The Big Game” because it had a lot of action and had a very good story line. I thought that story was a little hard to understand the first time I read it but after reading it a second time I was able to understand it a little more. I did think it was a little sad that the little girl, even if she was a spoiled brat, was left without parents at the end of the story. I liked how the elephant got all of them in the end. I was definitely not expecting it to end like that and was really shocked. I like stories that have surprised endings like that. I was not a fan of “Lassie” because I thought it was a little perverted and made fun of dog’s loyalty and I love dogs. It sort of portrayed dogs in a bad light and not really how they are. I know my dog would never let some other animal eat my hand off and then leave me to die. I did think it was funny how Boyle picked on Timmy’s clumsiness because I am really clumsy myself and my friends do the same thing to me all the time. I did not like how the story ended because it was so confusing and left me wondering what happened to Timmy and Lassie and I feel like it made the story feel incomplete. Both stories had good parts and bad parts but they were both ok. I have not read any other stories but I do like the ones we have done and look forward to other stories we might read. I like to read stories about love and life and this book seems to have good stories with those themes.
