What has your reaction been to the TC Boyle stories we've read so far? Which story have you liked most? Which have you liked least? Why? Are there any stories you've read that we haven't read in class that you'd like the class to read & discuss (Its a long shot, I know).

So far I've had multiple kinds of reactions to TC Boyle's stories that we have read. I'm basically kind of weirded out by them overall. They things he writes about, the details in his stories, and the description he puts into them just has an odd effect on me. I can say that I have had a really good laugh or two during the stories, especially the part in Modern Love when she makes the main character wear a full body condom. I basically died laughing, but that's slightly irrelevant. The story that I liked the most was the one about the wannabe safari. I liked the general idea behind it and the overall way it was presented. I think the different character personalities put into the story flowed well with modern day society as to people I could imagine wanting to do something like that. I also like the way he gave the animals personality. This especially went for the elephant, obviously.
The story that I liked the least was the one that was supposed to be putting a twist on Lassie. It really didn't make much sense to me, at least until it was explained in class. But even then I really don't see the point behind the story. I get that Lassie would never hook up with a coyote in the television show nor would she bite off the head of a snake, but honestly who cares about what she WOULDN'T do in the show. I honestly haven't read any other stories than what you've assigned the class but if I had to say I wanted to read one or two, I'd say I wanted to read The Hit Man and If The River Was Whiskey. I say The Hit Man because there's a really good movie called Hitman and that's the first thing I thought of when I read the title. I say I'd read If The River Was Whiskey due to the simple fact that I thoroughly enjoy whiskey and would most likely have a glass or two while reading the story to enjoy simple irony.
