The topic that I have decided to write my issue paper about is Gun Laws in America. I chose this topic because it something that I am very concerned about. I have my view on the argument and I like the challenge of leaving my opinions out of the paper. With this paper I feel like it is also very easy to nonchalantly refute one side of the argument, so I will try hard to represent each view respectively. There are two opposing views for each side of the hot topic debate. One side of the debate says that we, as Americans should have stricter gun laws and maybe even confiscate them all together. The other side of the argument says that the right to bear arms is our right, and it would be unconstitutional to take that away. Both sides of the argument are passionate about their view on gun laws. With the recent shootings in the United States, citizens demand that action be taken promptly. Both sides of the argument have the same primary goal, to protect people. The side of the argument who wants gun control wants to protect innocent people from shooters with intent to kill. The side who does not want stricter gun laws wants to protect people from the government, who they believe is over-stepping their boundaries. They believe that having guns are like a check and balance system. With the gun laws, some people feel like they won’t be able to protect themselves. My topic of gun laws affects everyone in the United States, not just anyone who can legally by a gun. If the law is revised, then there is going to be a lot of changes that affect everyday life. If the law stays the same, then life essentially stays the same, there will just be a lot of upset Americans. Hopefully we can find a solution to this problem and live together in peace, no matter the outcome.

What topic have you decided on for your issue paper? What are the two opposing sides' viewpoints? What are some of the main points for each side? Who does your topic primarily impact?
