I have decided to write my issue paper on the topic of stem cell research and its two debating sides. I chose this topic due to the fact that it is such an arguable topic in that both sides have opinions that are supported and there is so much debate to it. This topic also will have a lot of good and informative sources due to its controversy and its prominence in the media and research fields. Most people have heard about this subject and have developed an opinion based on what they know, so i think there will be a lot of sources. While looking for sources i know i will have to be careful with some because they will have a bias and may not have accurate information, I will mainly try to stick with scholarly journals which I know are peer reviewed and will present good information. The controversy stems from the origin of the stem cells; on one side people argue since the stem cells originate from unborn fetuses and in-vitro cells that were not used during the fertilization process, they claim that they are not considered to be human yet so they are fine to study and use for treatments. On the other side people argue that those cells are human because of their origin and they should have rights and not be used for these treatments and that it is ethically wrong. Stem cells have a lot of potential especially in the medical field where they could fix a lot of problems but the research is limited because of the issue of morality and a lot of people don't want to support it. Both these sides have support from multiple groups and they both present opinions in which they show support for. The main points for this topic are whether they should be used or not and if it is ethically right or wrong, although there is no research determining whether a stem cell origin is considered human most of the sides mainly use their opinion in order to determine this. My topic will primarily impact those in the research field and those wanting to gain more information on this subject and they can choose which side they agree more.

What topic have you decided on for your issue paper? What are the two opposing sides' viewpoints? What are some of the main points for each side? Who does your topic primarily impact?
