Issue Paper

I was originally going to do my issue paper on vegetarian and vegan diets vs. non-vegetarian diets, but that topic wasnít approved. I think that I am either going to do my issue paper on Gay Marriage or Animal Testing/Rights. I emailed today about my topic so Iíll know for sure soon. I havenít done a ton of research on either of the topic but I know that general information and sides to each. For Gay Marriage, some believe that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. On the other side, people believe that anyone should be able to get married and it is between two people that love each other. That everyone should have the same rights. Some people base what they support about marriage on the religion they are committed to and what they stand for. Others just see marriage in a traditional way. For the other topic on Animal Testing, some believe that animal testing is a good thing. For one, itís extremely beneficial to research and it prevents humans to be used for testing less often. On the other side, people believe that animals have rights and that they should not be tested on. That they donít have the ability to agree of disagree to testing, so we donít have the right to make the choice for them. A lot of the testing ends up with the animals dying so people donít think that it is fair to waste their life like that. But majority of people would agree that an animalís life is not the equivalent of that of a human life. For the Gay Marriage topic, it primarily impacts people that fight for the right to marry their loved one that have the inability to do so now. Many individuals in a Gay relationship feel very strongly about having the same rights. Individuals that are impacted by animal testing and their rights are either the researchers, that use them to conduct their research, or the people that feel very strongly against it. Organizations like PETA are very involved with animal rights and disagree highly.

What topic have you decided on for your issue paper? What are the two opposing sides' viewpoints? What are some of the main points for each side? Who does your topic primarily impact?
