I have enjoyed English 1200 for the most part this semester. What I have found most beneficial about English 1200 was becoming a better writer, even if it meant I didnít get the grades I wanted. Every paper I got back had helpful comments on it to help me become a better writer. I also enjoyed our in class writings, whether it be free writes, stories we had to write, or the in class reading essays. I think it is really important to write as frequently as we did, even if it wasnít about anything important, to help us become better writers. A lot of people get really bad anxiety when they are told they have to start writing and I think those exercises helped that problem. I know at the beginning of the semester the very first time we had a free write I freaked out and had no clue what I was supposed to say, but over time I wrote about random things and stopped worrying about it as much. I really enjoyed the short stories we read this semester. I donít think Iím going to sell back my Boyle book because I want to read more of them; I think he is a great and hilarious writer. What I have found least beneficial is the information provided about each of the writing assignments we were given. Although writing each of the papers was common sense for the most part, it would have been nice to get more in depth about how the papers should look and be organized. The annotated bibliography was straight forward when looking at the example, but we never went over the point of it, why it is useful, etc. I didnít really enjoy the online discussions because most of the discussions were very broad and I felt that I was rambling a lot to make the word count. This is the first English class I have had in college because I took the first English in high school but I enjoyed it. I obviously liked the one in high school better because it was easier and we got to do more creative writing, but I felt English 1200 was very useful and effective to become better at and more comfortable with research writing.
