I havenít quite decided which topic I will be writing my Annotated Bibliography on but I want to focus on one aspect of poverty. Poverty is too broad of a topic to write about therefore I am thinking about isolating my topic to either children living in poverty or families living in poverty. My sociology teacher spent all of last class talking about children and families in poverty and it really interested me. After watching a touching Frontline video in that class about children living in poverty I thought it would be a great topic for my next English paper. I was homeless growing up so I empathize with others that have been or are currently below the poverty line. I only have first-hand experience and because I was so young my outlook on my familyís situation was and is a lot different than the true reality of the circumstances. I want to learn more about the subject such as what circumstances lead families to becoming homeless, reaction to the lifestyle change and national as well as global statistics associated with living below the poverty line. The last recession hit in 2007-2008 so I am sure a lot of children and families were affected greatly as far as their financial situations are concerned. Finding information post 2008 should not be difficult because the recession placed thousands more people under the poverty line as a result of lack of jobs. I am interested in finding out how I can narrow my results to only include data from 2008 to the current date in my research. Knowing how to narrow my search by date would help greatly bypass avoidable excess reading. After looking at a previous Annotated bibliography posted on the course blog I am still not certain how to properly write one. I intend on becoming more aware of what an Annotated Bibliography is and how to write one after going to the library informational session on Monday. I may need to narrow my topic even more by isolating poverty to the United States or even to North Carolina; I plan on asking advice from others about narrowing my topic during the informational session.
