So far I have liked all the stories we have read from Boyler but particularly” Modern Love”. I like that in his own way he tells stories how there really are. In today’s society Hollywood paints a picture perfect ending were the good guy always wins and where the true motives for doing things is always true at heart. Today’s society is moved by what they will personal gain a not because they are trying to help others and gain nothing for themselves. My favorite story was “Modern Love”. Although it was very different then what we typically think in a love story it is very true especially in today’s society. Every day we see more and more people who have strange anxieties, like an extreme germ phobic. Every day we hear of people who wash their hands multiple times throughout the day to prevent contact with germs to the point where is starts to interfere with their everyday lives. Then we see people on the other side who will do anything to get laid. This guys was humiliated to the point that the was required to wear a full body condom. A guy with some self respect would have not agreed to such degradation. Not only is she telling him that he is not worthily for being with her without such an extreme “protection” but she is treating him like a disease. We see a man with no boundaries who will do anything in his power to get what he wants but in reality it is she who is in total control. Sometimes we fantasy about things that we think that we want and we will stop at nothing to get whatever that might be. Then with time we realize that whatever it was that we wanted was not all that great, not what we truly wanted. I like that Boyler does not try to sugar code any of his stories. In contrast he goes to extremes to point out how as humans we fall into situations because we get cocky very quick and are only trying to please ourselves.
