The final topic I have chosen for my annotated bibliography is Central Auditory Processing Disorder, also known as CAPD. Central Auditory Processing Disorder affects about 5% of school aged children and is a learning disability and can most simply be described as “audio dyslexia”. If someone were to say “You look nice today, Haley,” I would hear, “Haley, look today you nice”. I chose this topic because I actually have CAPD and I have never really done research on it, on my own. I have always gone by what doctors say and I think this will be really informative to myself and give me a better understanding of it and why did I get it .I have had CAPD since I was about 7 or 8 and I never really understood it then, I just did what I was told. I had to play learning games on my computer and kept going to the doctor to get hearing test, learning test, memorization test and other weird things that I didn't get. I remember it being very frustrating because in class, unless I am looking at a person’s mouth when they speak, I couldn't understand what they were saying. So far I have just been looking at sources and I have found that a lot of scholarly articles and dissertations have very precise and statistical information as well as theories as to how kids get it. I haven’t found many books yet because I haven’t really looked but I think my best bet is the scholarly articles. I have been using the Joyner Library website a lot and that helps me find pretty much everything. I even used the library in my hometown as well as medical reports that I personally have and I only want to use those to get an idea of what I am looking for. I can’t really think of any questions because I have mostly been relying on the example of it on the course website which has actually been very helpful. The only question I can think of is, are dissertations allowed to be used as sources?
