When given the annotated bibliography assignment originally, I was extremely intimidated. Fifteen seemed like an endless amount of sources and I could tell it was going to be tedious. Picking a topic where I could find a variety of sources also proved to seem difficult. It took a few tries and experimenting with lots of my different interests, but I was able to find very international adoption and from there it was pretty much smooth sailing. Finding sources thanks to the ECU library databases and vast resources online proved to be easy, and while annotating each source got repetitive I liked that each of my sources brought different interesting insight to the table. I could read anything from a Time magazine article to an academic journal and get completely different perspectives. Every source I annotated seemed to teach me something new to the point where I feel really well versed on the subject now and have the desire to learn more. The hardest thing I found was simply focus and time. I am an easily distracted person who often procrastinates. So this project required a lot of my time and focus and while I found time to procrastinate thank goodness I managed to finish it all. I also found difficult trying to find new words instead of constantly repeating the same things. I was getting so sick of writing the words international adoption that I thesaurus'ed it several times just trying to find a new way of phrasing it so I don't bore my reader. After turning in my paper, I feel confident but am still a little nervous. This is my first real annotated bib and I really hope that my hard work payed off. I spent a lot of time trying to perfect my citations and rephrase my paragraphs and through the process I think I really learned a significant amount more about research writing and the requirements of it. In high school I would put such minimal effort into my works cited page and not even try and make sure it was done to the best of my ability. This project taught me that not only are the works cited/bibliographies extremely necessary and important, they also can add a lot to the assignment when they’re annotated.

What did you find most challenging about the annotated bibliography? What did you find easiest about doing the annotated bib? Now that you have submitted it, how do you feel about your Ann. Bib?

Nothing in the annotated bibliography was too overly difficult. It was a lot of repetition when writing the paragraph that followed the source. It just felt like I was almost saying the same thing... more
