The topic that I have chosen to do is on gun control. I wanted to do gun control because there is a big debate going on in the United States over what the laws on guns should be. There are two sides to any debate or issue going on. For gun control there are the people who believe having a gun should be a right and the other side is citizens should not own guns. There are many different arguments to each side, which is why there is still no decision made on the laws of guns. The main points to the side of citizens should be able to own guns are the second amendment to start. The second amendment states that we have the right to bear arms and that is in the first 10 bill of rights our founding fathers made for our country. This is a basic human right that many Americans believe shouldn’t be taken away. Another main point this same side is making is that people that are killing people or are criminals will still be able to get guns whether or not they are legal in the United States. The other side of the issue is that guns are becoming a huge problem with crime and other incidents such as major killings. The government is trying to outlaw guns saying that they are an unnecessary hazard. By taking away guns they feel it will take away the ability to use it to kill or threaten when someone has an instinct. Another reason is that the government believes by taking away guns there will be less crime because people will not have a gun to use as a major threat. My topic primarily impacts the citizens of America. The government is trying to pass a law through congress but the people also have a say in this. It is their rights to own guns stated by the constitution and if there is a vote on this law then the people will be the ones making the decision. Therefore, this issue is mainly focused on the great people of the United States.

What topic have you decided on for your issue paper? What are the two opposing sides' viewpoints? What are some of the main points for each side? Who does your topic primarily impact?
