Issue Paper
Sun Apr 14, 2013 2:40pm

For my issue paper I have decided to do it on animal testing. One reason I chose this topic was because it has two sides to it and they both have very strong viewpoints which would make a good argument. Another reason I chose this topic was because I did my annotated bibliography on it, therefore I have many sources already. When writing my annotated bibliography I wrote on both sides of this dispute so starting off I have some research done. The two opposing sides’ viewpoints would be for animal testing and against it. I have read many papers, articles and parts of books to come up with good reasoning behind both sides in this dispute. People that are against animal testing would say animals around the world suffer and die in chemical, drug, and cosmetic tests, medical training exercises, and other medical testing. They have suffered serious harm during the process of experimentation, and people misunderstand the nature and lives that the animals actually live, and are unable to understand the actual laboratory procedures and techniques. They also think animal testing should be excluded and banned because it is unethical, inhumane, and believe there are other ways to test products. Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is an organization strongly against the testing of animals, so this will be a great source to get the negatives for this topic. However, people for animal testing would say it is undeniable that animal-based research has contributed to significant improvement in the length and quality of our lives. It has helped us with cancer, heart disease, diabetes, birth defects as well as other health problems. They would state that testing in animals is much safer than testing on humans. They also talk about the importance of animal testing and why it matters, for example the breakthroughs in medical injuries, and medical advances that it has made. This topic impacts people in this field of testing animals. This paper would be a way to see which side outweighs the other when it comes to the benefits and what is right in animal testing.
