For my issue paper the topic I have decided on is the topic of gay marriage. The two opposing sides for this argument are basically those that are for gay marriage and those that are opposed to it. In depth though, those that oppose gay marriage are against it because of their religion. They believe that it is sinful and goes against their religion. They think that marriage should be kept between a man and a woman and that if marriage was allowed to be between two people of the same gender, the world would probably blow up or something of the like. However those that are for gay marriage believe that you should be able to love whoever you want to in life, regardless of if they are the same gender or not. They also believe that there is thing called separation of church and state, basically meaning that oneís own personal religion and beliefs should not be forced onto everyone else. They believe that people should be able to marry whoever they want and that oneís religion should not dictate everyone elseís lives. Iím really looking forward to doing much more in depth research on both sides of the issue. Clearly right now my presentation of both sides of the issue are a little biased but I plan on removing that bias when I research and write my paper. Iím sure that both sides really do have valid points and I am very much looking forward to learning more and more about them. My topic though primarily impacts your normal, hard-working, every day American citizens. These are people that should not be treated differently just because of who they love. Everyone should be able to love who love, it is their own prerogative and they should be allowed to do what they want. I think that people who are against gay marriage donít realize that these people they want to take away their civil rights from are just like them. They work hard and deserve to have the same rights as everyone else. This paper and topic will benefit both sides by informing them of each sideís opinion and what they think.
