My topic is gay rights. The two arguments are differing views for and against gay rights. I chose this because it is an important topic for me and I feel very strongly about it. Some of the topics I discuss are gay marriage, adoption by gay couples, and gays in the military. The different sides are those who are against gay rights and those who support it. When it comes to gay marriage those who are against it worry about it lessening the values behind straight marriage, religious beliefs that the bible says it is wrong, and stuff like that. While supporters want gay couples to have all the rights that come along with marriage. People against gay couples adopting worry about the children being raised to be gay, or the children not having role models of each sex, and things along that line. While gay couple adoption supporters look at studies that prove these things false, and want gay couples to enjoy parenthood. People against gays in the military worry about bunking situations and horror stories of rape. On the other hand supporters of gays in the military just want gay people to have the right to fight for their country. This was proven with the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” This topic primarily impacts gay people in America, because no matter how much straight people against gay rights want to believe it, gay rights do not take away or threaten the sanctity of straight marriage. It simply gives them the rights straight couples take for advantage. You might think that divorce threatens the sanctity of marriage more so than just more people getting married, but who am I to think something like that. Well I hope to get a grade on this paper this time around; it has been a long time coming, hopefully. I hope you do not mind grading it again. I hope you had a nice time at your concert this weekend. I am extremely jealous. You should seriously record Abby’s reaction and show it to the class. That would be pretty cool. And Happy Birthday…late.
