I changed my topic from last week, so I will take the time now to briefly explain a few of my main points. I have chosen to use offshore oil drilling as my topic. Environmentalist and others against offshore drilling argue that drilling mars the scenic beauty of the ocean, changes sea bed and water conditions, produces wastes, and increases the risk of major oil spills. On the other hand, the pro-oil drilling activists believe in “Energy Tomorrow.” This belief supports oil drilling because it provides the U.S. with its own resources, more jobs, and is good for the economy.

I think the issue paper will raise a few challenges for me. First, I think that supporting both sides of the argument without sounding biased will be difficult because throughout my research, I expect to agree with one side more than the other at times. Also, formatting my paper and sorting information throughout the paper will be challenging because there are several main points to support on each side of the argument while trying not to confuse the reader. I am most concerned about finding substantial and unbiased sources that will support both sides of the argument.

Out of the information that I have gathered thus far, I found it interesting to think about the levels of discharges, waste, and hydrocarbons that come from offshore drilling production and transportation operations. I also found it interesting that offshore drilling has a lot to contribute to our country’s energy security. Offshore drilling provides more than 242,000 jobs and by the end of 2013, it could generate 44 billion dollars in U.S gross domestic product (GDP) and reduce the amount of money we send to foreign countries by 15 million dollars. As a solution to offshore drilling problems, personal training, safety standards, and technological innovations are predicted to prevent future oil spills and improve work conditions.

I do not have any more questions concerning this assignment. I do think that you could have added some more questions to this assignment but then again, I couldn’t use up this space to tell you that if you had added more. I actually like when you ask several questions because then I don’t have to add as much filler after I finish answering the questions provided.
