There are several challenges that I think will make themselves evident in the writing of our last major project of the year, our issue paper. The topic I chose is one that I am extremely interested in and have a strong opinion on, euthanasia. That in itself I believe will prove to be my largest challenge and concern. To remain completely unbiased on something you have extreme feelings for is very difficult, or at least I can imagine so. Therefore I am interested to see how I can push myself as a writer and make my paper purely to inform and not to persuade an interested reader on this controversial topic. Another challenge I think is providing valid points from both sides that are factual and can be proven, not just opinions based on primarily religious and moral beliefs. I am hoping to use many academic journals and studies and legitimate sources that have scholarly backgrounds to make this less of an issue. I have found quite a bit of really fascinating research so far on doctor assisted suicide. Primarily about Dr. Jack Kevorkian, also known as Doctor Death, which I was excited about because a documentary about Dr. Kevorkian was what got me so involved about learning about euthanasia in the first place. I have found even more information than that original movie provided me, and learned a lot about the people's reaction to his work both positive and negative. I am also learning the major reasons people are against it besides purely religious. For example, people are extremely against the fact that many people with crippling depression are trying to legalize euthanasia so that they can go peacefully. The majority of American people that do support the practice of euthanasia support it only for people that have terminal illnesses and are suffering greatly and will most likely die naturally a very painful and horrible death and would like to go peacefully before that takes over their life and on their own terms. I do not have many questions on the assignment, because I think I have a pretty good handle on what you are expecting from us, at least I hope I do! I am really excited to learn more about a topic I am interested in myself as well as have the ability to inform others.
