In previous English classes I have found that the way an instructor runs the course as a great affect on how I learn. For example, in high school I had English teachers who made assignments very clear and gave sufficient time to complete the work that was assigned. Although, I do not believe my high school English classes prepared me for the amount of work English 1100 required. My English 1100 professor was terrible and unorganized. Not only is she a professor at ECU, she is also a writer for Microsoft, I believe, which required her to travel to a different state. I felt that her second job had an affect on her students and the class because she wasnít giving our work the attention it needed. This professor would choose to tell us some parts of an assignment but seemed to leave out other important parts. On top of not knowing half of what was expected of our work, I didnít feel as though she provided us with the ample amount of time that was needed to complete the paper that she assigned. Another huge issue I had with her was the fact that every single last one of our papers were all related to a significant experience that impacted our life. Since she did not mention that every paper we would write would be related to that significant experience, I decided to write about three of my friends who died one month before I moved to Greenville in a car accident due to drinking and driving. Writing paper after paper about that experience was difficult and got really boring since there are no positive things to relate to the death of young adults. I believe that the most beneficial way for me to be successful in your class is for me to understand exactly what it is you are looking for in each paper. Luckily, you give us the opportunity for you to review our paper before we turn it in. I have always struggled with English and having a professor who takes the time and effort to review and make corrections is very beneficial for me.
