My experience in this English course has been pretty good overall. I do not have any major complaints or concerns. I thought that the few papers we had to write were good refreshers on how to write in different formats and the stories we read in the T.C. Boyle book were interesting. I appreciated the fact that the deadlines for the assignments were spread out over a realistic time frame, because it kept it from getting too hectic. I have a horrible habit of procrastinating until the last minute to do things but we had plenty of time to complete our work, so the stress that I did experience from this course was due to my own lack of time management skills. The stories we were assigned were short enough for me to read when it was convenient for me and were not super time consuming, so that was nice. Also, the discussions we had in class about each story helped us figure out the authorís intentions and the true meaning behind the stories, which taught us to look deeper into what we read instead of simply taking it for face value. Another thing I liked about this class was that we were able to express ourselves in our writing a little more than other English classes. We had free writes in class where we could just write about whatever came to mind and that kind of helped me because I tend to have trouble getting started when I write. Since we only had a little bit of time, I was forced to just start writing and go from there and I learned that once you get started, itís really not that hard. Even with the longer papers we had to write, we were allowed to choose our own topics that interested us, which made the research and writing a lot less of a hassle. Whereas in my previous English classes, we were usually given a topic to write about that no one was really interested in. The only negative thing I have to say about the class was that we wasted a lot of time, because our discussions got way too off topic. I think everyone was grateful for the humor and relaxed environment that we had in class because it made it more fun, but at times I did feel a little irritated simply because I felt like I was wasting my time. In my opinion, the attendance policy was too strict for a class where we only spent ten minutes of the period actually discussing what we were learning about. No offense to you, because overall I enjoyed the class and having you as the instuctor, I'm just being honest!
