I have found that in previous English classes, I dread every minute I am in there. I donít really like writing that much but I hate reading the most. My teachers have usually just given the class busy work that has no meaning to it besides the easy grade. The things I have found beneficial are personal projects such as writing about my life or things that have happened in my life. Also when the teacher explains the readings that were assigned it helps me understand things. When I read on my own I read for the big picture. I have a lot of trouble understanding the small things in a novel and when the teacher can explain it helps me. Some things that I do not find beneficial about my previous English classes is when we do small readings and answer pointless questions that are easily found in the text. Those questions are easy and do not make me think about the story and the small meanings. When I have to answer questions that make me think I understand the story more clearly. Another thing I find non-beneficial in an English class is the group work we do in class. In my past English classes teachers will assign a reading and questions to do in a group. When they do this I have found that there is only one person in the group who answers the questions, another who writes, while the rest of the group just talks off topic and distracts the group. Based on my experiences to help me with my writing you can read over my papers I write before I turn them in. I like learning what is wrong with my writing and how I can fix it and improve it. The more I learn about writing the more confidence I have and the more I will enjoy writing. Another thing that will help me with my writing is that I tend to not be able to transition well in my papers because I just like to write really fast and get my ideas on paper. To help me with this I just need a start on one transition, this will let me understand what you are looking for and I will be able to write better transitions.
