Thank you Lindsay. I have given it a lot of thought I want something that is relevant and 'real world' for my students. The days of reading a book and writing a report are 'so yesterday'. Everyone is blogging, which is a form of writing and it gives my students more exposure to real-world applications through technology. It allows them to use their devices for something more meaningful than just facebooking or snapchatting; I know that stuff is meaningful to them, but I want them to know and understand that what they hold in their hand is so much more powerful than that.

I know that I am a 'geek' of sorts and my students probably don't find it fascinating that you can take a Droid Razr and go to the navigation part and literally cruise the Old City of Knoxville TN or any other town like you are there. Personally, I think it should because most of my students are poor and some do not ever get out of this county (ever) so they should take their devices and the books they are reading and travel the world right from the comforts of my classroom. Okay, well that is my soap box spill for Droids (which I don't even have--my husband does) and for reading.

Cindi, I love your idea. I think that creating a BLOG on your webpage for book clubs would be very accessible for students!!

I love that idea Lindsay and Cindi! I think if we give the students a chance to interact with their peers with a blog they would get into it. It's amazing how much they really know about the internet ... more

That is very interesting Natalie. Our computer teacher doesn't. We are responsible for our own computer lab. Most of the time our assistants administer computer lab. I think your computer teacher... more

I like this idea too. I have tried a blog with the students but it didn't turn out how I would have liked. It is definitely something I want to try and revisit next year.

Even if the computer teacher couldn't do it every week. If she could get the students started and learned how to do it, then I think I could use it in my classroom.
