I also agree that it is better safe than sorry! I have personal social networking sites like Facebook and Pinterest but I try to keep all of the separate from school. I don't friend students or parents on Facebook because I consider that sort of thing to be private. I kind of like to keep work and home separate. I have always lived out of the school district that I teach in so that I get a little bit of anonymity in public. I still run into kids and parents from time to time but I try to keep it as limited as possible. For that reason I also created a separate account just for school. As teachers we are, and have been, held to a standard that is higher than others might be held to. I think there are other professions that run into those same sorts of standards too (preacher comes to mind). While inconvenient at times it is part of our job but it would be awful to have something on a personal board cause the loss of a job.
