Bre, I agree. I too have the same problem in allowing my students to access the Pinterest site at school. There are so many times that I want to show them something I found of pinterest that goes with our lesson but I am unable to bring up the page due to firewall. Also, many of my kids don't have internet at home so they only have time at school to engage with technology and internet browsing. I would think many of them have cell phones or there parents. So it is nice that they could use the Pinterest app for a smartphone!

I chose to use Pinterest for this assignment. One of the reasons is because I already use Pinterest and I know many of my parents also use it. It is very user friendly and easy to set up. In order to ... more

I'm not sure we can do anything about the firewalls at school. Besides maybe learn to get around them, everyone keeps telling me there are ways around them but I can't figure it out! It is difficult... more

I know of ways to get around streaming you tube videos but that is all. There are so many great things to incorporate into the classroom that is blocked. It truly is sad!

Yes! I really like Dave's suggestion. Ask those in charge, the. If denied have parents ask. :)

Yes that is smart! We need to get the parents to speak up!!

It would be great if the parents spoke up. I would LOVE to be able to use social bookmarking in my classes. I wish we could email our districts asking them to unblock these sites so we could use... more

Natalie, I think if enough people pressed the issue with the district they might unblock these sites. However, I do think it will take parents expressing their opinions and desire for these websites... more

Lindsay, I sure hope that you are right. Our students would benefit for things like Pinterest. Who could we contact?

Our system goes back and forth on blocking social networking sites. Sometimes they are blocked and sometimes they are not. As far as I know teachers are able to access Youtube, Pinterest, Facebook,... more
