I think it's always best to have two separate accounts. I mean, most of us are not doing anything nefarious online, but things can be so misinterpreted! I would never friend students or parents either. That's just trouble waiting to happen.

Despite what people might think, teachers do have lives outside of school. Everything can't be school related! So I think you're smart to keep your personal life personal. Also not a bad thing that you have some anonymity. As a future special education teacher, I'm not sure how I'll deal with that as no one is supposed to know if a child receives special education services. Just by knowing me, that would be apparent!

I agree, all this is just part of the job. It is unfair, but at the same time, I guess we do have a major influence on our students and people probably just want that influence to be good.
