At our school this year we used a program called Reading Plus. Like your school some of the students made progress, but others were not able to progress and it created a lot of frustration. The problem that I had with the program was that it was all online; students sat in front of a computer for the entire session and there wasn't any choice involved at all. It was completely prescribed. Needless to say, escorting 8th graders to the computer lab every Tuesday for their dose of prescribed reading on the computer became quite the chore.

      Lexia sounds like a great program for the upper grades. I find myself becoming bored with Words Their Way! What is your thoughts?

        I like words their way, I think you just have to mix it up and play some games with it to keep them interested. Here are some activities I found that they can play with their sorts.... more
