I think these sites are great, especially for younger students. I was surprised that you use Word Girl in your classroom. I can see high schoolers having a better sense of humor over it than the younger adolescents. I know that my kids are starting to be "big kids" and don't want to be seen as "little kids" even though they are still so young. They are trying to break free from that as they transition into puberty. I think for that reason they get really weird about doing things that they see their younger brothers and sisters doing/enjoying. I thought Word Girl was a good balance for them though. It's a cartoon but it isn't like the programs geared towards the pre-K or early elementary school set. I thought the synonym toast game would go nicely with older students too!
