British accent

I am glad we are on the same page with the word sorts provided by ASU...they are just wonderful! I don't know what I would do without them in my classroom! My assistant uses them for word study and I use the center sorts for a lit center each week. It is so important for students to understand these patterns when they are learning sounds, letters, and spelling practices.
The best part of the sorts -- it's an approach not a program. My assistant and I have the freedom to use the sorts as we see fit for our kiddos.

On the "program" side -- I have used Letterland for the last two years...All of the characters "in" Letterland have a British accent. In the Letterland software the characters pronounce a few words quite differently than we do, but it doesnt cause confusion (luckily)...If anything it arises conversation about differnt geographies and dialects...there's your "20th century" :-) Anyway, for the most part, the letter sounds are the same, which is the reason we use the program.

In my class we talk a lot about the etymologies of words and then also the history of the English language and how it came to exist in its present form. A lot of times I will help my students to... more
    • Technology and Word Walls - Robyn Pickering, Tue Jul 16 16:57
I think incorporating a word wall with technology could be an interesting concept. I found an article where a teacher used a wiki like our Re5533 wiki to create a word wall. See what she did here... more

Thanks Robyn for sharing that I like the concept of a word wall in digital form.
