First I explained how word sorts work and explained the different sounds in each sort. Then I had her watch as I sorted words with a group. The thing with word sorts is that you actually have to be teaching and engaged with a group of kids, this isn't her strong point. Sorry, tapping out is what they call it in Fundations. It is sounding out and using each finger for a sound. This helps kids visualize how many sounds there are and hear it.

        Ok, I imagined that's what tapping it out meant but I wasn't sure. Thanks. It's not effective when you have an assistant who isn't really engaged with the students. Maybe you'll have better luck this ... more
