You'd be surprised how often my students enjoy things geared towards younger children. They love it when I bring in things like cartoon clips. I even use pictures books sometimes to introduce literary elements. When I teach allusion, we look at pictures books of various Cinderella stories from around the world. In my Holocaust unit, we read The Terrible Things by Eva Bunting. I think kids may pretend for a while that they are too big for cartoons, etc; but really, who doesn't love Donal Duck?
