Yes it is a program that Yadkinville started before I began working there. I think it is K-3 because I student taught in 3rd grade and they had previously used it. All the other grades have stopped using it except for first grade. Kindergarten uses Letterland, 2nd and 3rd use Words Their Way. I haven't used Words Their Way so I don't know much about it. Fundations has students practice sounding out words for spelling and reading. It teaches kids to put a box around diagraphs and underline blends. I call this "decorating" the words and the kids love it. They put a star on the 2nd letter of a double letter so like ball, toss. I feel like it gives visuals to kids. When they see a diagraph or blend they visualize the box or underline and know exactly the sound it makes.

Karie, I am unfamiliar with Fundations. Is it a program only used K-2 at your school? Do you find similarities between Words Their Way and Fundations?

Sounds like a great program! I can see that it would work well with my struggling readers. I like the idea of decorating words! Thank you for sharing!!
