RE: Word Study in my class

I have thought about doing that but there's the constant reminder of time. In the beginning I read with students and tried to incorporate word sorts. It was terrible. I personally felt like I was rushing through reading to get the sorts in and play the games. Or if I did sorts first, I ran out of time for reading. This year I have thought about letting my high students do reader's theatre (since they mostly struggle with fluency in the higher reading levels) while the rest of the class is working with Fundations. Then after lunch when our ESL, reading lab kids are pulled out, I can explain Words Their Way sorts. Or they can do the WTW sorts while I am doing Fundations.

Morgan, Thank you! I think that Fundations would be great to use during Guided Reading time in one of the rotations because then you can do fundations with your lower students, and words their way... more

That is a great idea. I think that is the hardest thing. Trying to give students what they need, and not too much of the things they already know.

haha I just responded the exact same way. Then I read yours. Great minds think a lot...or have too much time to collaborate when school isn't in! :)
