Natalie, I read the article from Learn NC. It talked a lot about how students are distracted by popups, videos, images and etc that come along with online reading. There was an interesting site called readability. That transfers the screen to a white background with black print. It is supposed to help get rid of the distractions. A mother's argument was she see's this happen to her son when he is researching for articles online. He goes to one website and then another and begins to lose focus and has forgotten his main mission. I do believe online reading puts a damper on our comprehension. I know that if I read an article online I will take a break and begin browsing other websites. Therefore, I lose focus on the material and content I should be reading. We do need to teach students those specific strategies on how to browse the web and to know which sites are hosting sites. We don't always consider these things because they are automatic to us.
