It is like we talked about in our Tech Group meeting, depending on our purpose for reading determines whether we should read online or have a hard copy. If I am reading for pleasure I don't mind reading on my tablet. However, if I am reading for content I want a hard copy. I want to highlight, write in the margins and etc. There are tools for this online but I find myself gaining more from a research article if I have my hands on it. I also agree with the connection between technology and vocabulary. We need students to have a visual representation of words not just word clue. Especially our ESL learners and our at risk learners. They need the concrete and the visual to better understanding the meaning of these higher level vocabulary words.

Learning about the differences between print based and online reading comprehension surprised me. There was no difference in comprehension between the two. I know I often think it is difficult to... more

I also loved the idea of taking pictures and letting students label them -- this would allow them to take ownership of whatever it was they were labeling!

I'm like you in that I feel like I better comprehend what I have read if I print it out. I tend to not read everything if it's online I do a lot of skimming through. If I really need to be... more

I was also surprised by the young adults wanting paper to read on. I would think they would enjoy digital.

The purpose of what we are reading does change how we would want to read it. Our ESL learners do need way more visual clues to understand vocabulary. I enjoyed reading the idea in Dalton's article... more

Breanna, I really liked the idea as well of taking the pictures of kids and having them label them. Where do you think you would put these pictures after you took them? Would you start a class album? ... more

The class album is a great idea. I know that at my old school (I'm not sure if we have it at my new school) we had a chart printer. You could take a regular sized document and make charts out of it.... more
