In my past English classes I have written a few literally analyses about a wide range of books, journals and even songs. One of the first literary analysis was when I pieces that I had to analyze was a play, I choose to discuss one of the Canterbury Tales. In that paper I wrote about the different meanings that the author had wrote about. My teacher made us understand how to read the sentences and figure out what the deeper meaning. He taught us that the author could be writing one thing and mean something completely different. This confused me for a while until I had to do a few exercises that forced me to think about how authors ordered words, used metaphors and ironies and stuck clues to what they were trying to mean. By understanding this I was able to do much better when it came to writing literary analyses. When I had to write about a books I had a lot of trouble making the connections in my paper. For example I always seemed to have trouble linking a specific metaphor to the theme of whatever I was analyzing. Another paper that I had to write about was a song. The paper that I had to write about how the writer used their language to persuade whoever was listening to go along with what they were trying to say. I had to go line by line, looking for types of parts of speech that go further than just what it literally mean. These skills have given me a much greater ability to understand the assignments and books that I have to read for all of my English classes in the future. One question I have to ask about the TC Boyle paper is how I should go about picking what to compare between the stories. I want to choose to write about is On for the Long Haul and The Human Fly. I think that I can compare these two together. The themes of the stories, and how Boyle gets the reader to involve themselves in the read. Also how do you think would be the best way to connect the two stories.366

What kinds of papers have you written before in terms of literature? Have you ever done a literary analysis? Poem analysis? What questions do you have going into this TC Boyle paper?
