I have always enjoyed writing, creative writing that is. I like being able to write about things that interest me, things that I have personally experienced and can relate to and things that are just fun. When it comes to writing for classes, however, I donít necessarily enjoy writing as much.
In terms of literature in my previous English classes, I had a multitude of papers to write throughout my 4 years in high school. These papers ranged from personal narratives to stories we had to create that included certain things such as monsters, a brick wall, to a body of water that the character had to get across. I also had to write research papers, as well as a few literary analyses.
The literary analysis has always been the hardest for me as reading comprehension is not my specialty and trying to get my thoughts on paper in regards to the book for the analysis was always a challenge. The easiest types of papers for me to write are the papers that are about my own life, or papers where I get the chance to be creative and make a new world, new characters, a new plot, and an entirely new story.
I have never done a poem analysis and actually to be honest, I have not even heard of a poem analysis before. At my high school, even though there were numerous English teachers, they all seemed to do the same writing responses and papers over and over. So aside from the few types of papers I did over the course of my 4 years, I didn't do much else.
Going into the TC Boyle paper, I do not have too many questions. I would ask, however, where the best place to start our papers would be. Would it be to brainstorm similarities and differences, to write down notes about each story and then compare, or just start by choosing the two stories I liked and understood most? I would also just ask for any advice you could give us on the paper in general and where students in the past have lost the most points and struggled the most on.
