The T. C. Boyle story I liked the most was Carnal Knowledge. The story was very entertaining and it grabbed my attention. The events that he encountered including getting knocked out by a body guard and protesting animal rights were very interesting. Also something about his desperation and trying so hard to get the girl amused me. I thought it was funny that he crawled through turkey droppings and tried to be something he was the exact opposite of. He changed his entire lifestyle in the matter of a few hours just to impress a girl. You could predict the ending because all of the stories that we have read by Boyle always end up badly, but in the end I was glad the guy left the girl. The story I liked the least was On for the Long Haul. There was a lot of irony in the story and I didn’t like the ending at all. The irony of the story was that he completely uprooted his family from their everyday lives because he believed that they were all in danger and he brought them to Montana where they would end up being in more danger than they ever were before. In the end I was hoping the antagonist would have got what he had deserved because he was a horrible man who kicked children and hung rabbits but he prevailed in the end. The story that is the most unusual is Modern Love. Breda’s character was very unusual she was fascinated by exotic diseases but was scared of every single piece of bacteria that occurs in everyday life. She was an extreme clean freak and the measures she went through to keep herself clean freaked me out a little bit. She made her boyfriend go through all sorts of tests, not just health tests but dream analysis and brain tests which had nothing to do with bacterial diseases. In the end she dumped him over athlete’s foot which is very common but to her it was basically death. I think the weirdest part of the story was when she made him wear a body condom and he actually agreed to it.
