The Boyle stories are different than any other book or short story that I read before. You never know the various twists and turns that Boyle is going to throw at you while reading. Since Boyle’s book is divided into three sections, you think you know what the story is going to be out. But Boyle throws in a little bit of everything in his books. The story I’ve most enjoyed so far is little fur people in the love section. The reason why this is my favorite is because it was a story I understood thought reading the entire story. Starting off with a woman who cares about the squirrels that she finds and heals them, and has a good relationship with, even one that is better than hers and her daughter. Boyle throws in the twist about how the neighbor thinks that the place stinks and she doing something wrong. All she is honestly doing is helping out these poor animals until they are back to full health. I feel bad for the women in the end, because the squirrels are what keeps he heart going, almost literally. The story I liked the least was Carnal Knowledge. The reason for disliking this story was that I didn’t understand the reasons behind the ending. She just left the guy she was with for so long, and not only that but they did leave him behind while trying to rescue the turkeys. Some of the story I liked, for example how they met in the beginning and learning about the dog. She stood for a good cause, but in the end it didn’t make much sense to me why she left for an older man. Maybe she was falling for him the entire time, and was just using the other guy. Only the crazy mind of Boyle could answer that one. The story that was unlike anything I’ve ever read before would be Modern Love. I’ve never read a story about a woman that was so germaphobic and that was intrigued by different types of diseases. Also the whole body condom part was a little bit freaky in my opinion.
