For the upcoming T.C. Boyle paper, I believe I am going to choose to use the theme option. I feel as though I will be more capable of writing a more cohesive response and overall paper in pointing out and analyzing a recurring theme as opposed to just singling out two stories and nitpicking the hell out of them, and in the end over analyzing my comparisons and contrasting details. I have written compare and contrast papers previously in classes I have taken before your wonderful course, and I was never the most strongly suited writer to tackle that back and forth sort of paper. Thus I have ended up with the theme option, it simply sounds far more feasible that I will be able to pump out a solid paper writing about a steady theme throughout a few different stories within one section of the T.C. Boyle book of terror ridden stories. I mean you cannot really deny how morbid and dreadful most of Boyleís pieces have been, or at least the stories you chose for us to read and discuss in class. You know maybe Boyle wrote some really happy and inspiring works of literature and we as a class may never know about them because all we read are his dark and depressing tales of woe and sadness. Maybe you are the one who is all dark and twisted inside, what with all of the loveless and hateful stories you have of reading. Iím sort of kind of just rambling now in order to get that word minimum you set for us, but I feel like that is why you give us that word minimum; in order to teach us how to fill space effectively within our writing. Now I could be wrong and sound like a complete dumb ass, but I do like trying to figure out your different teaching methods and why they are so damn effective. There I go again with my bad syntax though. I used the adverb effectively to define the verb fill and then the adjective effective to describe your teaching methods. I guess I could have and should have just used the word swiftly or intelligently or deftly to define and describe the verb fill space, but I was on a roll and just and used to forms of essentially the same word in two concurrent sentences. Iím sure thereís some rule against that, or at least itís frowned upon in most writing courses. Damn I just learned something from you and you didnít even have to be here to teach it to me, well done Professor Bates. Well done indeed.

Which option for the Boyle paper have you chosen (Theme or Compare/Contrast)? If theme, what theme have you chosen and why? What stories have you chosen for your paper and why?
