The topic that I chose for my argument paper is that standardized testing like the SAT and ACT tests should not be used in the college admissions process. Students are forced to takes these tests if they want to get into college and I think that this is unfair. Studies have proven that these tests do not show actual intelligence and are not valid tests. While I was taking these tests, I struggled with the length and information that was in them. I studied in class and did well in school, but these tests didnít test me on the things I learned in high school. I ended up doing well on the tests but I donít see how my score represented what I knew on the exam. This interests me because college is a huge part of a lot of peopleís lives and I do not think an unfair assessment should determine if they go or not. There are some colleges that are starting to allow students to opt out of their tests scores being used in their admission process and I think that more colleges should start to do this. There are counter arguments to my topic as well. Some people may say that this is the best way to assess the incoming college students as a whole to be able to see who is fit for their institution. Some people also think that students should be able to test for about 4 hours long and they should know the information that is required to succeed while taking the test. I think I am going to be able to prove to the people who have a counter argument that the tests that are required for these students are not fair or important. I think that colleges should look more at how well students did in their classes in high school, the extracurricular activities, and volunteering that they did while in school. I think that this shows more about the students than how well they perform on one test. There is more to a student than how well they perform on an exam, especially because some people are horrible at taking exams.
